frequently asked questions

Commonly Asked Questions

Q.  What are the team fees to play with the Warhawks?

A.  We have a base fee of $200 per player.  The tournament costs are separate and are outlined above.  Uniform costs are also separate but we have no plans in the next 2 years to make changes to those.  We do require that all boys purchase the uniform and 2 shooter shirts for practices and tournament play.

Q.  We cannot make the August 6 tryout but we still want our son to tryout and play with the Warhawks.  Will you have another tryout?

A.  Yes.  We are tentatively planning a secondary tryout for Saturday, August 27th  @ Lake Mountain Middle School in Saratoga Springs.  The times will remain the same for the age groups above.  After our tryouts are completed and in the event we need more players, we will do invitations to players to join us.

Q.  If my son does not make the tournament team, can he still play and train with the Warhawks?

A.  Yes!  Those who do not initially make our tournament team will be invited to participate on our practice squad.  Our base team fee is $200 for all players and then the tournaments are extra cost as outlined above.

Q.  We are not able to do all the tournaments.  Can we pick specific ones to attend and pay by the tournament we can go to?

A.  Yes!  We are offering this opportunity to pick the tournaments you'd like to attend and to pay for those tournaments per the fees above.  Be advised that we must have 18-22 players play in that tournament to take a team to it.

Q.  When and where will you practice?

A.  We will hold 4-5 practices total leading up to each tournament 2-3 weeks prior to each tournament.  For example, the Wasatch Invitational is typically the 2nd week of October.  That means our first practice together would be late September and then we'd have 3-4 more practices after that to prepare for the Wasatch Invitational.  That comes out to 2-3 practices per week for 2 weeks.  We currently have field space locked in at Lake Mountain Middle School in Saratoga Springs, but we are working to move our practices to Galena Park or another middle school location in the Draper/Sandy area where it is more centrally located for all of our athletes and families.  Our practices will be held in the evening around 5PM or 6PM and we will go for 90 minutes to 2 hours per practice.

Q.  How do we go about buying uniforms?  Are they required to buy their own red helmet?

A.  After tryouts are done, we will open the uniform store where boys will need to buy their uniform (shorts and penny) as well as two shooter shirts to be worn throughout the 2022/2023 tournaments and practices.  Boys are NOT required to buy a chrome red helmet, but they will need proper protective equipment to play.  If there are enough boys interested in buying one of the Chrome Red Warhawks helmets, we can place a team order to save on cost for each helmet.

Q.  Are there payment plan options or sponsorship opportunities for boys to help with the fees?

A.  Yes, we offer payment plan options on a case by case basis.  Please reach out to us directly at warhawkslc@gmail.com to arrange for that.  There are many businesses that are willing to sponsor athletes to participate in club sports, they just have to ask.

Q.  Do the fees cover transportation, food and lodging for all the boys?

A.  Unfortunately our fees are not able to cover transportation, food and lodging for the all the boys.  The fees established are covering the following:
  • Tournament entry fee (all tournaments are 2x more than what they were a year ago and some are 3x the amount)
  • Small stipends for our coaches who coach each of our teams, including covering their travel, food and accommodations at the tournaments.  All of our coaches have played collegiately, coached collegiately and/or have received National and State awards and honors for their performance as athletes or coaches.  A few of our coaches are coaching without a stipend and have only asked to have their travel, food and accommodations covered for out-of-state tournaments.  This has allowed us to lower the fees more, too.
  • Equipment for the club including cones, balls, goals, etc.
  • Necessary field rentals for indoor facilities or any outdoor facilities.
  • Snacks for our "Nest" at Tournaments - Our "Nest" is a 10'x20' enclosed tent/pavilion where we have a table with drinks, snacks and chairs for the boys and Warhawks families to gather when not competing)
We are also working to secure sponsorships from businesses and banks to help lower our tournament fees.  If you know of businesses that are willing to sponsor our program, please reach out to us at warhawkslc@gmail.com and we'd love to get in touch with them to make competitive club lacrosse more accessible to more of the great athletes in the State of Utah.
